The Target Market for the This series of publications is intended for professional photographers in a wide variety of specialties. The greatest number of photographers in North America practice portrait and wedding photography. The second largest market segment is Illustrative photographers, including practitioners of commercial and advertising illustration, fashion illustration, architecture, and other disciplines. Other significant market segments include photojournalists and There are 150,000 or more professional photographers in The United States. Probably 40,000 to 50,000 of these are engaged in portrait and wedding photography, with lesser numbers in the other specialties. Some photography books—a book on lighting, for example—can certainly be useful for professionals in any photographic practice. Other works, such as a book on posing, might have some applicability to all photographers, but would be most beneficial to certain disciplines—in this example, photographers doing portraits, weddings, advertising, and fashion. A third category of books, something like architectural books, would have little value to photographers outside that photographic discipline. With this new photography series, VoxClarus Press intends to provide useful books for all practicing professional photographers. We expect this to include special interest books as well as general interest titles. Some of the smallest sub-segments of the profession simply do not include enough photographers to make publication of specialty books practical. There are tens of thousands of photojournalists, for example, thousands of sports photographers, smaller numbers of motor-sports photographers, and even fewer motorcycle racing photographers. So, a wide-ranging book on photojournalism would be practical to publish, a general book on sports photography might be practical, but a book on motorcycle racing photography might not be. While we can't publish books that will not be profitable, we expect to have our choices guided by our authors and by our readers. Our writers will be photographers with important things to say to their peers; their readers will be photographers with a need to know. When a photographer has a desire to write, we'll try to fit his or her work to the appropriate audience. When readers ask for information on a specific topic, we'll try to find someone with the expertise to provide that information. If you are a photographer on either side of that equation, please talk to us. If you have something to say, and would like to write a book, send us a proposal. If you would like to see us publish a book on a certain photographic topic, please write and let us know.
